Sure, there are disadvantages of travelling – ones that I am open to share as we move along in this article – but the benefits you get from exploring the world far outweighs them all.

You get benefits from travelling, and these benefits are more than enough to make you want to book that next vacation immediately!
What are the benefits of travelling?
Travelling refreshes you from your daily life.
Do you see yourself waking up, dressing up, getting to work, going home – and doing the same things over again tomorrow? When it’s time to refresh yourself from your daily life, go travel.
One of the many benefits of travelling is you get to just pause your usual routines for a while and have a fresh perspective. As you travel, your body clock changes, and you are forced to make a new way of starting, spending and ending your day.
Once you go back, you are refreshed and ready to start your daily life again. You might even feel like you’ve missed doing what you normally do after a week outside!
Travelling improves your health.
Travelling is often referred to as an escape – from a stressful reality, from a painful experience, or from a tiring routine. That is why travelling improves your health.
It can improve your physical health.
All the walking, touring and catching the train can prove beneficial for you! Travelling can truly improve your physical health.
Would you rather do treadmills than walk or jog along a scenic path? Movement is best done when it’s for the sake of travel. When exercise is done for leisure, you would not even feel as if you are exerting effort at all.
It can improve your mental health.
According to a study featured in the LA Times, travelling is proven to improve your mental health. In fact, the positive result is “almost immediate,” with 89 percent of the study’s respondents saying how their stress levels drop only after a day or two of travelling.
Moreover, travelling can make you happy. In fact, the feeling of happiness starts the moment you plan your trip. We find joy in discussing exciting days ahead, even if it is just a short while off your work desk.
Travelling serves as a fun way of learning.
Jonathan Look Jr. via Forbes writes it this way,
“It is rare to meet a fearful traveler and it is even more rare to meet a traveler that grows more fearful as they gain experience.”
Learning is one of the best benefits of travelling. You get to know more about yourself, others and your environment in the best way possible. Travelling broadens your horizon in a way that not all books can.
When travelling from places with different cultures and traditions, you get acquainted with a new world. You open your senses and see differences and similarities with your own people and practices.
When travelling from places that are out of your comfort zone, you help yourself learn how to let go and be adventurous. You develop a set of characteristics you don’t even know you have. You commit mistakes, you do wrong turns, you miss schedules – you learn.

Travelling allows you to build relationships.
How many in your circle of friends have you met during one of your travels? The many relationships that blossomed during travelling are testimonies as to why travel is important.
Some met their soon-to-be spouses in one of those group tours. Others met their ultimate travel buddies while backpacking around Asia. Many met pleasant acquaintances and long-time friends by going from one place to another.
Travelling allows you to build relationships. In that shared space and time, you cannot help getting connected to the ones who share the same passion for travel as you.
If, as another perspective, you are travelling with your loved one, friend or family, travelling offers the same benefit. It’s a popular saying that you get to know a person once you travel with him or her – and it is true! Travelling brings out both good and bad in you, which are important when building relationships.

Travelling can get expensive.
First, you got to think of your accommodation. Then comes the list of activities and tours you must not miss. How about the food while you are there?
Yes! You survived – but are you ready and able to spend as much on your next upcoming trip?
Travelling can get expensive. Especially if you have developed a love for going places, you simply cannot let a year (or month) pass without going anywhere.
Whether you are well-off or not, the concept of expensiveness applies. What do we do when travelling gets expensive?
We get smart in our travelling. We wait and book for the best deals, we allot a sensible budget for our dream vacation, and we try not to go overboard when spending overseas.
Travelling can get dangerous.
It can be dangerous for your life.
How can travelling be dangerous for your life? Probably, the worst case out there would be world war and terrorist attacks happening. We also have natural disasters and calamities that specific locations in the globe are prone to.
Given this thought, should we not travel anymore? Of course not! The number of places that are safe to travel to are far larger than that of the unsafe ones.
Look Jr., in the same Forbes article, continues on:
“Sure, there are places in the world that are inadvisable to visit, for example, disaster and conflict zones, but they are extremely small.”
It can be dangerous for your health.
The World Health Organization reminds all of us travellers to gather information regarding the health situation in our chosen travel destinations so that we are aware of potential health hazards that we may be subjecting ourselves to.
How can travelling be dangerous for your health? As examples, you have the current COVID-19 pandemic and the threats of unprotected sexual contact during travels.
Are health threats enough to make us disregard as to why travel is important? My answer: I hope not. Sign up for a comprehensive travel insurance, seek advice prior to your travels and exercise health precautions while in another country.
Travelling can get addictive.
We have all been there: we just came from a long relaxing vacation, and yet we are already asking ourselves, “Where to next?”
The cycle continues, and it honestly would not end – because destinations will forever be worth going back to as they evolve over time.
Travelling can get really addictive. But does feeling the urge of planning your next escapade count as getting addicted to travel? If not, what is?
Vagabond neurosis or dromomania, according to the American Psychological Association (APA) Dictionary of Psychology, is “an abnormal drive or desire to travel that involves spending beyond one’s means and sacrificing job, partner, or security in the lust for new experiences. People with dromomania not only feel more alive when traveling but also start planning their next trip as soon as they arrive home. Fantasies about travel occupy many of their waking thoughts and some of their dreams.”
So, unless you find yourself committing to things way more than you possibly can and should, your addiction to travelling is on the positive side.
Travelling can change your daily life.
One of the main reasons why travel is important is it will teach you many things you can apply in your daily life. However, what happens when you go back to your normal routines and people start noticing the changes in you?
We are all for good changes, but if travelling somehow makes you a totally different (and unlovable) person, it is time to review what has happened along the way.
What are the possible changes in your daily life that can count as disadvantages of travelling? When you are finding it hard to come back and function as you normally would, or when you see yourself losing focus over daily routines because you are daydreaming of your past or next travel, then maybe you need to step back a bit and give yourself time to get realigned to your daily life.
